The next two vessels of Royal Caribbean International will be called Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas – the pair of names proposed by a USA Today reader.
George Weiser, 53, of Livonia, MI, has won the Royal Caribbean Name That Ship Contest to title the world’s largest cruise ships ever built.
The contest, in conjunction with USA Today, marks the first time that a cruise line has invited the public to name a cruise ship. In all, more than 91,000 newspaper readers submitted names during the contest to title the next generation of Royal Caribbean ships – to be called the Oasis class.
A panel of five judges named Mr Weiser the winner. The prize is a seven-night Caribbean cruise for two on one of the new ships.
The first ship of the Oasis class is expected to surpass the Freedom-class ships as the world’s largest passenger ship in autumn 2009.
